Effect of different non-invasive and micro-invasive treatment modalities of white spot lesions on microhardness of human enamel

Aim: to investigate effect of different treatment modalities white spot lesions on microhardness human enamel. Materials and methods: twenty-four recently extracted sound maxillary incisor teeth were collected. Teeth divided at random into six groups (10 each) that summarized as follows: Group 1: unprepared (base line control); Groups 2: demineralized enamel (negative control), 3: Demineralized treated by resin infiltration (ICON), 4: bioactive glass (Sylc powder) remineralizing agent, 5: fluoride varnish ( positive 6: microabrasion. embedded in the acrylic blocks with their labial surface flushed flat mold. All specimens except base control demineralized. Each group was assigned according manufacturer’s recommendations. The measurements performed using a Vickers Microhardness Tester diamond indenter 20X objective lens. Results: showed there statistically significant difference MH values between study (P<0.001). significantly highest mean recorded (microabrasion), (sound enamel), (resin infiltration), groups, which did not differ significantly. This followed value (fluoride varnish) group. While (demineralized enamel) yielded lowest values. Conclusions: among tested modalities, microabrasion, infiltrant well air abrasion improved comparison varnish.
